WESTSIDE KNITWEAR & HARRIS TWEED CRAFTS is owned and run from home by Angela Gillespie. She established her home based business at An Ard, Barvas, Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides during 2002.
Her principal aim is to produce Harris Tweed crafts and Knitwear utilising traditional materials and skills. These processes can be viewed at An Ard. She makes fabulous cushions and soft furnishings. Her speciality is embroidering her products with celtic designs, Scottish prose and Gaelic sayings. She also knits fisherman rib jumpers to order from Harris knitting yarn.
All Harris Tweed crafts have the Orb Label attached, thus ensuring that the cloth complies with the Harris Tweed Authority’s definition of Harris Tweed; ‘Made with 100% wool, hand-woven in the crofter’s home in the Outer Hebrides’.
Angela specialises in the use of Harris Wool and the finer Shetland wool to produce made to measure garments.
Fisherman Rib and Scandinavian Style jumpers are made with 100% Harris Wool which is normally used to produce Harris Tweed. They are extremely warm, hardwearing and particularly useful for outdoor wear.
Shetland wool is used to make Celtic and Irish hand-knitted waistcoats. This wool is 4ply and softer than Harris Wool.
Whilst there is a small sample stock for sale at An Ard, the majority of larger items are made to order.
Payment options are Cash, Cheque / Postal Order (made payable to ‘Angela Gillespie’) with order or Paypal. Bank Transfer is also available by arrangement.
